Living in Cancun - About This Blog

After living in Cancun for 3 months I decided to share my knowledge of the city with other travellers. I moved here during the winter of 2008/2009 to basically escape the Canadian winter. At first I was a little worried and sceptical about moving to Mexico but now I know how silly I was. This country is so beautiful and the people are the friendliest ever. All this makes up for the few hick-ups that Mexico is going through. A lot of what we hear back home is exaggerated and we only hear about the bad stuff.

Of course the country has great problems like corruption, drugs, crime, or unemployment but I think it's still quite safe if you know how to behave and what places to avoid. And that could be said for any country, really. So hopefully you will learn something from my blog and be able to enjoy your stay much more.

So in summary I'm going to talk about the basics of starting your new life in Cancun, talk about sound and economical living and give you some tips I learned from the locals.

  2. Hi,

Just wanted to say I really enjoyed looking through your articles. I was lucky enough to live / work in Cancun in 2005. Happy times, such friendly people. I even miss the supermarkets like Commercial Mexicana ! I used to work near Ty-coz and had forgotten about the place, so thanks for the flashback. I have started my own website about Cancun too. http://holidaycancun.co.uk

  3. Hi Martin, I just wanted to say Thank you very much for all these information.
I'm leaving from Canada (Montreal) 3rd of December and I will stay in Cancun for 3 months for a same reason (escape winter) I had some worries but after reading on your site I have no more. I would like to ask you if you don't mind about place I have find to stay. I will have two roommates in place called "la alhambra, cancun" it's intersection of Av Copan with Pedernal Street. Do you think this safe neighbourhood?
    Cheers
